Makivik Volunteer Income Tax Program
Since its creation in 1993, the Makivik Volunteer Income Tax Program has always had one main objective: Assist beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement to receive benefits to which they may be entitled after filing their personal income tax returns. The Makivik Volunteer Income Tax Program plays an integral part in helping beneficiaries receive credits such as the Northern Resident’s Deduction, which is offered to people living in remote areas. Depending on the individual’s situation, this credit can be upwards of $8,000 per tax year. As well, when beneficiaries file their personal income tax returns, they become eligible for other government benefits such as the Québec solidarity tax credit, the GST tax credit and Family Allowance.
