Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

The CCB is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.

YOU WILL NEED

• A birth certificate or a copy of your child’s act of birth (photocopy);
• Proof of residence in Canada (photocopy of at least three documents);
• Proof that you are the person responsible for the primary care and upbringing of the child (photocopy of at least three documents);
• Your social insurance number (SIN).

STEPS TO FOLLOW

1) Enrolment at the time of birth

• You can apply for the CCB when you register the birth of your newborn. In most cases, registration is done by paper at the hospital or birthing centre.
• Be sure to give your consent and provide your SIN in order for the Vital Statistics Agency to share the birth registration information with the CRA. If you do not give your consent, your information will not be sent to the CRA and you will need to apply for the CCB subsequently.

2) Online application

• Log in to My Service Canada Account at https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/e-services-individuals/account-individuals.html.
• Select Apply for Child Benefits.
• Confirm your contact information, your marital status and your citizenship.
• Add your child’s name, gender, and date and place of birth.
• Review and submit your application.

3) Mail-in application

• Obtain, fill out and sign the form.
• Include any additional documents that may be required.
• Mail the form to:
