Programs

KRG Sustainable Employment Department manages several employment and training programs to:

  • Help Nunavimmiut improve their employability and working skills;
  • Encourage employers to open new positions for local residents;
  • Help Nunavimmiut become economically independent;
  • Encourage youth to stay in school (higher education leads to better jobs).

These programs are very useful for your clients. Your responsibility  as a LEO is to share this information and to refer your clients to programs section when need it.

Job Creation
  • Support employers to hire and train unemployed persons.
  • Promote Inuit employment.
  • Stimulate full-time jobs (minimum of 30 hours/week).
  • Create opportunities for permanent jobs when projects end.
Purchase of Training

 Help labour force participants (employed and unemployed) to acquire new skills and improve their employability, through courses purchased from specialized organizations, educational institutions or individuals.

  • Part-time, short duration (1 day to 1–2 weeks).
  • Full-time, extended programs (ex. childcare educators)

Challenge

Help students acquire work experience and improve their understanding of the labour market and stimulate work ethics throughout the year and during the summer.

  • Minimum 14 years of age.
  • Must have attended school on a full-time basis during the previous year and intend to continue studying full-time the following school year.

  • Part-time, maximum of 35 weeks during the regular school calendar; maximum of 15 hours/week.
  • Summer, maximum of 40 hours/week.
Delivery Assistance
  • Obtain expertise that is not available in Nunavik, and needed to develop training plans for participants.
  • Assistance can be used to promote and prepare training programs, identify potential participants, or to provide specialized services.
General Projects

Offer short-term jobs for unemployed individuals that help them to become active members of the workforce through work-related training and experience.

  • Contribute to community development.
  • Offer full-time jobs (minimum of 30 hours/week).

Persons with Disabilities
  • Assist persons with disabilities to prepare for, obtain and maintain employment.
  • Objective achieved through the testing of innovative approaches that demonstrate best practices to promote the economic integration of persons with disabilities.
Stay in School
  • Help students at risk of dropping out to complete their education.
  • Permit students to explore career choices attained through education.
  • Promote successful integration into the labour market.
Individual Action Plans
  • Provide customized employment and training assistance to individuals seeking to improve their employability through skills acquisition.
  • Action plan tailored to each individual’s specific needs.
Self Employment Assistance
  • Assist unemployed persons to secure self-employment through the creation of small businesses.
Nunavik Scholarship Fund
  • Encourage individuals to pursue their education at the post-secondary level.
